Welcome back to our refurbished studio

Happy New Year to you all!

While the world around us continues to struggle through this incredibly challenging time, we hope you are all managing to keep safe and well. We know so many of our students and their family members are working incredibly hard in Keyworker roles, whether it be frontline NHS and caring staff or providing essential services- to you all we offer our sincere thanks and send strength and hope as we enter the next challenging phase of this epidemic.

We have made the difficult decision to close the studio to all visiting students from Monday 11th January 2021 until the next Government review of the current national lockdown- all students have been contacted individually regarding their provision and we hope to reopen as soon as possible.

Whatever happens, we aim to push forwards this year and have some exciting new projects in the pipeline, including the launch of our brand new performing arts group ‘Shooting Stars’ and a beginners course to Signalong just around athe corner. We are just 6 months from our 20th Anniversary, and we intend to celebrate in whatever way we can. Please bare with us if there are technical issues online, or constantly changing situations. We will do our very best to continue to provide the highest possible level of service to all who are able to access it.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support- we look forward to seeing you over the coming days and weeks.

Take care, and if there is anything we can do to provide any further support or help, please do let us know.

Kindest regards

Tiggy, Janel and the Team

Following a fantastic few months welcoming students back to the studio and rebuilding our client-base, we find ourselves in the frustrating position of moving our “non-educational” music lessons online from today until Wednesday 2nd December 2020. The studio will remain open for our Norfolk County Council registered Day Services and for students participating in further education courses.

Despite the set-back, we are working hard to ensure our Zoom lessons are running smoothly and we have lots of exciting projects in the pipeline, including a virtual Christmas Showcase, a special video from MinivoX for Signalong’s Christmas Nativity and some festive treats from RockavoX

20 JULY 2020

First of all- WELCOME BACK!! We are super excited to have you back at the studio. Inevitably, there are a few new rules to follow, so please read the following information carefully, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

  • Arrival at the studio

    • we kindly ask that parents or guardians to wait in their cars or outside the entrance to the studio, adhering to the governments social distancing guidelines. For very young students, we will allow one family member to wait until the student is taken through. However, during the lesson we ask that you continue to wait outside the building.

    • For our students who are normally accompanied by support staff, we kindly ask that numbers are kept to an absolute minimum and that support staff adhere to our health and safety guidelines.

    • students will be asked to come in and wait in the ‘games room’, which has become our new waiting area. This area has been stripped of toys/books etc and chairs have been placed 2m apart.

    • Students will be asked to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water before going through for their lessons.

  • The Studio

    • The layout of our teaching rooms hasn’t changed as we are fortunate that they are big enough to ensure that a safe distance is kept between student and tutor.

    • We have introduced a one-way system around the building to minimise the risk of bumping in to each other, and safe distance markers have been added to the floor to make social distancing clear and easy to stick to.

    • Our teaching areas will be thoroughly cleaned for each student. However, we insist that students provide their own sticks, ear protection, instruments, plectrums etc where applicable.

  • Leaving the studio

    • All students will make their way to the entrance via the reception area and can be met outside the front door.

    • We will not, unfortunately, be able to provide our normal verbal reporting to parents at the end of each lesson. Instead, lesson notes can be found via the Parent Portal and will be emailed at the end of the day that you attended.

  • Payments

    • To minimise contact and to ensure tutors have plenty of time to prepare their teaching space for the next student, we will not be accepting payments in person on site. If you wish to pay by card, you can still do so over the phone and we will continue to accept payments via Bacs and Stripe (through the ‘make payment’ link on your invoice). Cash will also be accepted if the correct amount is placed in an envelope and clearly labelled.

  • Cancellation Policy

    • During the lock-down, we reduced our minimum cancellation notice to 6 hours. We will continue with this until the end of July.

  • Furloughed Staff

    • Unfortunately, due to the nature of their work and the termination of our school work, Janel and Jude have been furloughed since the beginning of April. For those of you who are affected, we will provide a substitute Tutor for your lessons for the time being. Please rest assured that they are absolutely desperate to get back to work, so while we can’t guarantee exactly when, we hope to phase them back in before the end of the summer.

Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance.
We respectfully ask you not to attend your lessons under the following circumstances:

  • You have travelled to the UK from any of the countries on the Government list of high-risk countries in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms.

  • You have been in close contact with a person with confirmed or suspected Coronavirus.

  • You, or a member of your household, are displaying any of the symptoms associated with Coronavirus, in particular a high temperature or cough.

If you have chosen to continue with your lessons online, please continue to use Zoom in exactly the same way as before.

23 MAY 2020

Good morning,

Firstly, I hope this email finds you all in good health and spirits. It seems difficult to believe that yet another month has flown by and it’s now almost 8 weeks since we had to close our doors. We have been truly inspired by the wonderful work of our students participating in our online music sessions and we thank you sincerely for allowing us to continue to do what we love! I must also thank those of you who have not been able to access online sessions for your ongoing patience. I can only begin to imagine how frustrating it must be and hope that you’ve been able to continue to practice at home somehow.

Moving forward, it is still very unclear how things might develop over the coming weeks and, with that in mind, we have decided to remain closed throughout the month of June. During this time our online sessions will continue as normal and we’ll be making some significant changes to the studio (while giving it a little TLC) to ensure that we are absolutely ready and able to open when the appropriate time comes. Do keep an eye on our Facebook Page for pics and updates on our progress! We will continue to monitor Government advice and guidelines as it continues to roll out over the coming weeks and will send another update in a month or so.

In the meantime, we continue to remain optimistic that “normal” service will resume at some point in the not-too-distant future. Please do take care of yourselves, and if we can be of any help please don’t hesitate to contact us.

With kindest regards,

Tiggy & the Team

21 APRIL 2020

Hi all,

Thank you so much for keeping in touch over the past few weeks. We’ve been overwhelmed by your support, particularly during a time when we’re all affected by the current situation. Thank you also to those students who have been in a position to continue with their music sessions online. You have been super patient and embraced the challenge and the lessons have been really successful , despite the odd technical glitch!

Moving forward, our plan is to continue with our current set up until the end of May. We are, however, intending for our Smash-It Drum Course and Rockschool  exams scheduled at the end of May to go ahead as planned. We will, of course, reassess the situation if anything changes over the coming weeks.

We are currently down to 3 tutors and 1 admin staff as we had to furlough Janel and Jude at the beginning of the month. Unfortunately, the bulk of their work consisted of group sessions that were not transferrable to Zoom, and, of course, school classes which have been suspended for the foreseeable future. They are both fine and send their best wishes to you all and they’re really looking forward to getting back to work as soon as they can. The rest of us are here to continue working with you and to ensure the longevity of the studio and our team.

Thank you once again for your incredible support. It really is a privilege to continue to work with so many of you. Thanks, also, to those of you currently working on the frontline. You are a force to be reckoned with and we have been truly moved by your strength, compassion and selflessness during these testing times.

Please do keep in touch via the main office phone 01362 694817 or via email at  office@jdtmusic.co.uk .

We’ll look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Take care,

24 MARCH 2020

Good morning to our fantastic students and families,

We hope this email finds you safe and well. Many of you have contacted us over the weekend to find out what our current position is and we have spent many hours figuring out the best course of action! We’re eager to keep as many of our music services going over the coming weeks and we know how important it will be to try and maintain some routine. The studio itself is now closed, but we aim to keep as much running online as possible. In order for this to happen, we’ll require students to download the Zoom app on to a smart phone, tablet or laptop. It will also help if you have a pair of headphones to use although these aren’t essential. Please see below for detailed information about each of our services and how to use Zoom.

Instrumental and Vocal Lessons
For those of you that take private one-to-one lessons, we will be transferring all future lessons, from today, to our online system via Zoom. These will continue to run at your normal time and day. We will contact every student individually to ensure this is a viable option and to help with the set up. We also have drum-kits, ukuleles and guitars available to loan should you require them.

Arts Award
We will be assessing the requirements of our individual Arts Award students and contacting you directly to discuss your portfolios and deadlines.

RockavoX & MinivoX
From this week, we’ll be running RockavoX and MinivoX via Zoom at the normal times!

Band Workshop
We have made the difficult decision to suspend the workshop until the studio reopens.

Musical Minds Dementia Choir
Sessions have been suspended until further notice. Fingers crossed, that won’t be long!

Kit Fit
We’d like to continue Kit-Fit via Zoom if we have enough for a class! We’ve emailed participants separately about viability.

Music Makes Me
We have made the difficult decision to cancel all future Music Makes Me sessions until further notice.

How to use Zoom
You do not require an account to use Zoom for your online learning. Simply follow the instruction below.

  • Android & Apple Devices

    • Download Zoom Cloud Meetings.

    • Click on ‘Join a Meeting’

    • Type in the meeting ID number and password that has been emailed to you.

    • Meet your tutor online!

  • Laptops

    • Go to https://zoom.us/join

    • Type in the meeting ID number and password that has been emailed to you.

    • Meet your tutor online!

We thank you all, in advance, for your support at this incredibly difficult time. We are working as hard as we can to ensure the longevity of the studio and our services and will try to keep you up to date with everything as and when we can. In the meantime, we hope that we can continue to work together to deliver a quality service and maintain some level of normality in these difficult and ever changing times.

Take care, and we’ll be in touch with you again very soon.

Kindest regards

Tiggy, Janel and the J.D.T. Music Academy Team
